9 epic US surf spots for your next vacation
Surf travel has a vibe all its own, one we are looking forward to soaking up this summer. Spending a little time working with Volcom’s team this past year on our collaborative surf travel line has us seriously anticipating our next surf trip.
An excellent way to experience a little travel without straying too far from home, we have put together a list of US surf breaks that are worth a visit. Whether it’s summertime swell or technical wintertime break- there’s a little something for everybody to enjoy as soon as we possibly can.
Haleiwa
HALEIWA, HI
Not for the faint of heart. Haleiwa is best surfed in the winter, where the waves can be double or triple overhead. Known for impressive hollow pipes and shallow reefs, it’s worth the trip for advanced surf.
Santa Cruz
SANTA CRUZ, CA
Super laid back. Santa Cruz has a low and slow vibe that is matched in the consistency of the waves. There’s a little something for everybody.
Honolulu
HONOLULU, HI
Warm and approachable. Waikiki can pack out, but head a little in either direction and you can find plenty of room to spread out. Both a beginner friendly and checklist worthy break.
La Jolla
LA JOLLA, CA
A wintertime great escape. Bring a wetsuit and be prepared for technical, low tide, surf.
Encinitas
ENCINITAS, CA
Baked in surf culture. Encinitas has serious surf vibes that extend far beyond the break. The break itself is intermediate to advanced- and can get pretty spicy when the conditions are right on the reef.
Palm Beach
PALM BEACH, FL
The closest thing to Pacific surf on the Atlantic. Palm Beach is a popular place to surf, especially when winter and shoulder season storms roll in.
Huntington Beach
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA
Known to some as Surf City USA. Perfect, intermediate surfing in an all year venue brings people here from all over. Huntington Beach has deep California vibes and a generally inviting surf crowd.
Hatteras
HATTERAS, NC
Got to time it right. Known to have some acceptable surf most of the year, Cape Hatteras really gets popping when hurricane season rolls around. Feisty weather makes for east coast barrels.
Cocoa Beach
COCOA BEACH, FL
Year-round consistency. Bring a longboard unless there’s a storm in the works and enjoy the long consistent break. Good for all levels, Cocoa Beach has produced some excellent east coast talent.
Did we miss your favorite US spot? Let us know! Can’t wait to see you out there.
