POSITION OVERVIEW
Matador is looking for a bold, creative Content Marketing and Community Manager with a knack for social media growth, impactful copywriting, and demonstrated expertise across the digital marketing landscape.
We need a real digital marketing pro who infuses creativity into to every element of strategy implementation. As Content Marketing and Community Manager, you’ll be the voice and steward of the Matador brand, dedicated to enhancing visibility and inspiring adventure. You’ll lead and own our brand and marketing communication strategy execution across all consumer touchpoints—from eCommerce and social media to email, events, partnerships, and beyond.
Based in our Boulder, CO headquarters, you’ll collaborate closely with our in-house content team, graphic designers, marketing director, and more to engage our community and grow the Matador brand. We’re a team of top performers and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, so we’re seeking someone who’s just as comfortable with big-picture campaigns as they are with grassroots initiatives. Remote applicants will not be considered for this role.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
The Content Marketing and Community Manager will report directly to the Marketing Director. This position requires specific skills and talents in social media growth, management, and engagement. It also requires strong copywriting skills that will be utilized across many facets of the company’s three brands (Matador, TinyTents, and MicroSend).
We are seeking a Content Marketing and Community Manager who isn’t afraid to take risks, try new things, and can build a brand that people get behind. The primary focus will be on the Matador brand, but the auxiliary brands will also be managed by this position.
Social Media Community Management + Growth:
Content Marketing and Community Manager will be responsible for managing and growing the company’s organic social media accounts and maximizing their impact for each brand. Specific responsibilities include regularly generating engaging content to post, collaborating with other brands and influencers to boost visibility and promote products, responding to DM’s and moderating comments, and finding creative new ways to improve engagement and grow the accounts. A growth-hacker mentality is greatly appreciated in this position. Social media platforms include Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and any other relevant platforms that could generate positive results.
Copywriting:
This role requires strong copywriting skills that will be utilized throughout the company. Copywriting projects include regular social media content, blog posts, packaging copy, website copy, ad copy, email/newsletters copy, SMS/Text copy, etc. Applicants should have very strong writing and storytelling skills, as well as a good understanding of what engages customers and drives sales. Copywriting is often cross-departmental and requires a strong ability to collaborate and incorporate constructive feedback to achieve desired results.
Community Building:
Applicant should have a strong motivation and the necessary skills to build a community around the company’s brands. This will involve outreach to build partnerships with other brands, influencers, and other relevant parties to maximize the reach and impact of each brand. Strong connections within the social media community and a history of building digital communities for brands will be seen as a significant benefit to any applicant.
Email and SMS Program Management:
As Content Marketing and Community Manager, you’ll lead the creation of engaging, on-brand email and SMS content that inspires our community. You’ll collaborate with the marketing director, graphic designers, and other team members to craft messages that resonate and drive results. Ideal candidates have experience with Klaviyo or similar platforms, with a strong grasp of audience segmentation, automation, and analytics to continuously grow our subscriber list and optimize campaign performance. You’ll analyze, test, and refine constantly, ensuring each message contributes to the Matador experience and engages our audience effectively.
Ambassador/Influencer Team Management:
The ideal candidate will have experience managing and growing ambassador and influencer programs, as well as overseeing contract management. You’ll be responsible for recruiting, onboarding, and maintaining relationships with ambassadors and influencers who align with Matador’s brand values. This role involves negotiating and managing contracts, setting clear goals, monitoring performance, and fostering authentic partnerships that drive engagement and brand awareness. You'll need strong communication skills, the ability to identify influencers who resonate with our audience, and a knack for building lasting connections that amplify the Matador message.
Other Responsibilities:
At Matador, we’re a small team, so everyone wears multiple hats. In addition to the primary responsibilities outlined above, you may assist with website updates, contribute to promotional brainstorming, generate marketing reports, support sales needs, approve product reviews, manage affiliate networks and pro programs, and build partnerships. You may also help handle public relations tasks, product sample order submissions, event support, research projects, customer surveys, and content curation from outside contributors. In our dynamic environment, you’ll have the chance to tackle a variety of tasks as they come up, ensuring no two days are the same.
Creativity:
We aren’t looking for someone who just wants to maintain the status quo. We’re seeking the person who wants to take risks and make waves with bold new campaigns, new ideas, and a fearless approach to digital marketing. Applicants must have the ability to generate and execute new concepts from scratch with minimal oversight and management. They must also be able to adhere to brand guidelines and work within brand voice and visual brand language when necessary. Applicants must have a collaborative mindset and the ability to make improvements to their work based on constructive criticism and feedback.

Bonus Skills - Website Management and Paid Media:
While not required, experience with website management and paid media is a strong plus. Familiarity with platforms like Shopify or WordPress, along with the ability to manage content updates, product listings, and overall site performance, would be beneficial. Additionally, knowledge of paid media strategies, including PPC, social media advertising, and campaign optimization, will help you contribute to Matador’s digital growth. If you have the skills to manage digital platforms and execute paid media strategies, you’ll bring even more value to our team.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, with 5+ years of relevant marketing experience.
• Proven experience working closely with senior management, with a broad understanding of marketing, digital strategy, competitive analysis, and opportunity assessment.
• Preferred background in the travel or outdoor industry.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Self-starter with exceptional organizational and project management abilities; capable of balancing multiple priorities.
• Hands-on social media experience, with a demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and inspire.
• Key strengths include initiative, creativity, teamwork, and confidence—along with strong presentation skills.
• Works well under pressure, managing multiple deadlines with ease.
• Must be responsive, team-oriented, and customer-focused, embodying Matador’s brand values.
• Willingness to travel as needed.
• Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe Creative Cloud is a plus.
• Applicants should have hands-on experience managing corporate-level digital marketing programs, including social media, email/SMS campaigns (Klaviyo experience a bonus), and copywriting.
